My happy place is the sun and the sea .
There is nothing I like better than to drift off to sleep with the sound of the waves gently lapping at the shore. It is calming and soothing.I am learning as I age to appreciate moments like that more and more and to really soak it all in.My body thrives in the sun and fresh air. In fact I have become very much aware of what I put IN my body is just as important as what I put ON my body! That includes the thoughts and emotions that filter through my mindset. We read so many different and conflicting articles on what we should be eating and what we shouldn’t be eating, what we should be using on our skin and what we shouldn’t be using on our skin that it can get rather overwhelming! I hope to simplify this information for you.My background is of a High School Teacher so I aim to educate and provide valuable information so you are then able to make more informed decisions on a daily basis.
Another passion of mine is to cook and bake and now I have channeled that into healthier versions of what I used to make showing my family and friends that eating healthy and clean does not mean tasteless and boring. Saying that, I also believe that eating something delicious with a glass of bubbles sometimes will just mean I appreciate it more!
That is what Healthy living from the inside out is all about….balance!
As we age, our bodies slow down which means that weight loss is entirely possible but it is definitely harder and therefore can be frustrating. I have noticed the past few years have been painstakingly slow to lose weight and when I hit the big and wonderful 50 it became especially hard. My goal is to understand that the number on the scale does not necessarily reflect being healthy and strong. What truly matters is Healthy living from the inside out!
I have discovered that mindset is a huge factor in Healthy living from the inside out and I have been working hard on strengthening my mind muscles!
Reading my local newspaper this morning, I came across an article entitled “Smart lifestyle choices can slow the aging process and prevent disease.”Did you know that “brain neurons lose speed and flexibility as they age”? To repair itself the best thing is sleep and food. But foods rich in Omega -3 fatty acids is the best food for our brain! These Omega-3 fats have been shown to reduce inflammation and aid with stress management amongst other benefits. The article went on to say that good protein such as beans , nuts and seeds along with chicken and fish and avocado is essential as we age. In order for us to have a strong and healthy immune system to fight disease, we must have a healthy gut. That is why pre and probiotics are so important.I love that this article was in the paper this morning talking about Healthy living from the inside out.
I look forward to expanding on these foods and discussing their benefits. I also look forward to imparting my knowledge and life experiences with you as you join me for the journey of Healthy living from the inside out.
